Adopt Don't Shop

As November, National Adoption Awareness Month, comes to a close we’ve decided to shed a spotlight on some reasons why adoption is a great idea.

We are going to give you 5 reasons to adopt don’t shop:

1. Cost: Shelter fees are much lower than the typical cost that comes with purchasing a purebred, which ranges from an estimated $800 and up.

2. Fight Puppy Mills: Breeding farms overbreed animals which can result in genetic problems and have horrendous living conditions for the animals.

3. Save a Life: Not only are you giving a pet a second chance with a warm and welcome home, but you make room for another animal at the shelter. Should the shelter be a kill facility, then you are saving a life.

4. Guidance to Helping Pick the Right Pet: The staff at the shelter have experience with matching animals with new owners. While working there they have had a front row seat to learning the animal’s temperaments, talents, and quirks; all of which can help match a pet with their new forever home.

5. Love: Most of the time adopting a pet from negative circumstance the pet can offer love and gratitude that doesn’t come from the buying experience.

We understand that when visiting animal shelters it is incredibly rare to find a ragdoll at the facility. Thorough breeders will screen potential candidates through the application process before placing a kitten with someone. When purchasing a pet from a credited breeder you also tend to get pets with their beginner set of vaccines, social, and the pedigree that you’re looking for.
